BMFA Affiliated Club No. 357 About TMFC Constitution Subscriptions Training Documents       Scale Comp 18th Sept Thankfully Sunday broke with no wind and clear blue skies;perfect weather for flying scale models. The morning started with all present having a good fly of anything they had brought along, before the competition’s 1pm. start time, with some of the spectators starting to regret not bringing a scale job so they could continue flying. Some guys didn’t even realise they HAD a scale model until told otherwise [eh.Brian] The ultra-simple rules were discussed,ie: take off,fly and land, and the score sheets handed out. First up was Andy Ellison, who’s first choice model had already become unserviceable,in the Reno sense of the word, and so he used a shared J3 Grasshopper that belonged to his son.His flight was going really well until he could resist it no longer, putting the aircraft into a very unscale 3D hover.Points deducted!!!! Up next was Josh Stenhouse with his foamy Zero, which looked really good reefinf in for another attack, although I don’t think the full size one could roll that quickly. Josh picked up a very nice score. Next up was yours truly, with my big Ryan STA,and I was understanably slightly cautious to begin with as my elevator had fallen off the last time it had flown. With some “gentle” encouragement ringing in my ears [yeah, right]I hit full throttle on the Moki 180 and the sound went from nice to awesome as the 20 x 10 prop tips went supersonic. I really enjoyed the clear, still air AND I managed a really good landing,as well !!!!! Next in the air was Dan G Ellison, flying the Grasshopper really well until his battery went flat.As this was his Dad’s fault there was no penalty on his score. Rob Stenhouse flew next, with his Seafire. This was really nice and scale-like,despite a noisy tail wheel. However, even with a good landing, the “chinoise” undercarriage gave way.Oops!! I went up next with my Mustang and I struggled with a sick engine and a weird-feeling elevator.Still,I didn’t crash her, even though the flight didn’t seem very scale-like. So,the final scores were: 1st      Lee Smalley         Ryan STA                       295pts.     2nd.    Rob Stenhouse     Supermarine Seafire       282pts   3rd.    Daniel G Ellison    J3 Grasshopper               240pts   4th.    Josh Stenhouse    Zero                              225pts 5th     Andy Ellison         J3 Grasshopper               139pts   Prizes kindly donated by                               were handed out,and the flying continued in the great weather for the rest of the day Steve Webb Models Archive Contact Us
