TYLDESLEY MODEL FLYING CLUB
Founded in 1966, and named Tyldesley Model Flying Club. in 1970, the club has grown from a few brave soul's throwing very fragile, lightweight model aircraft into the air, into what can be seen today. Miniature Aircraft guided by some of the most sophisticated Radio Control guidance systems available, and powered by lightweight, high performance internal combustion engines, electric motors and even miniature Gas Turbines. Patronised in the seventies by the late Group Capt. Sir Douglas Bader, CBE, DSO, DFC, Sir Barnes Wallace, CBE, FRS and also Group Capt. Leonard Cheshire, VX, DSO, DFC, and a founder member and sponsor of the Bomber Command Museum at Hendon, Tyldesley Model Flying Club is well known not only throughout the North West but also in Europe for our shows and large model aircraft firsts. Do you remember our big Lancaster Bomber, Halifax and Concorde? We may not now be as active in these fields as we once were, but the expertise has remained. Nowadays we have turned our attentions elsewhere, to the fields of proper model flying instruction, and the safe promotion and enjoyment of the sport of aeromodelling. Our structured training programme has been copied by many clubs on a national basis and our regular R/C club competitions are interspersed with free-flight and childrens events, membership lectures, visiting speakers and modelling demonstrations etc. Not to mention our club quiz league and also the many social activities for which we are renowned. Our nationally approved instructors can take you from complete novice up to the highest UK flying qualifications safely and with complete confidence. Model flight training also includes ground school and theoretical exercises to reinforce not only the rudimentary basics of flight but also awareness of a model fliers legal obligations under the Air Navigation Order and even their representation internationally. Our own club politics and such like are strictly reserved for the monthly club meetings where everybody can have their say. Tyldesley Model Flying Club is a firm supporter of minority airsports in the UK and are fully affiliated to the national body governing the sport of aeromodelling, the British Model Flying Association. Should you decide to join us you would require membership of this organisation to provide the comprehensive insurance cover plus other numerous membership benefits. This can be arranged through the club. |
