BMFA Affiliated Club No. 357 About TMFC Constitution Subscriptions Training Documents Climb & Glide Competition  14th August With just six contestants having a go,it was myself who first ventured into the windy, cloud covered sky with my Multiplex Blizzard.Despite a good 30 second climb I suffered from an out of trim aircraft, and with no lift only managed to record a poor time of 5 minutes and 8 seconds. This was further compounded when the chump on the sticks misread the wind strength and turned too far downwind, missed the strip and incurred a 10% time penalty. At about the same time Daniel G Ellison [he gets upset if you don’t put the G in his name]recorded 4 minutes 49 seconds with his [Dad’s] Hi-Light.Dave Buckley’s first attempt with his Alpha Cub was,for him, a poor 6 minutes 30 seconds. The first person to put his stamp on the competition was Colin Nolan and his Pelikan Robin and, with some helpful coaching from yours truly, managed a massive 12 minutes  36 seconds Dicky decided to join the fray with his electric powered Cougar, and despite flying a model that really is at a enormous disadvantage, scored a more than respectable 8 minutes 58 seconds. Last, but not least, was Andy Ellison with his Hyper Ava.This model is almost perfect for this competition and, despite the poor conditions showed it’s class with a best time of 14 minutes 33 seconds. My second flight was a bit better at 6 minutes 42 seconds, but it was becoming clear that I had the wrong model.Colin aborted his second flight at 4 minutes 38 seconds on the clock, with Dave’s second flight showing a big improvement at 9 minutes 9 seconds. The improvement continued with Daniel managing 7 minutes 52 seconds, but Dicky struggled with no lift for his 6 minutes 49. Andy’s second and last flight of the day was another respectable 13 minutes 50 seconds, and for my third and final flight I managed a further improvement by climbing beyond most people’s eyesight to score 7 minutes and 58secs,although yet again Numpty missed the strip and got another 10% penalty. This showed that there was a little bit of lift around, and this enabled Daniel and Dave to improve their scores to 9 minutes 56sec and 13 minutes 5sec respectively. Dicky also improved with 7 minutes 57secs,but showed that I’m not the only Numpty by stalling his Cougar on the down wind turn and piling her in,thus incurring a 10% reduction.
